SEND
Heyhouses is an inclusive school and we are committed to giving all our children every opportunity to achieve their full potential and grow as confident, independent learners.
Teaching and learning is personalised to meet the needs of children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities. By using a variety of teaching and assessment methods, as well as accessible resources we aim to ensure all pupils can access learning opportunities.
Supporting pupils with SEND might include strategies such as rephrasing questions, considering sensory needs when organising classroom spaces, building movement breaks into our lessons, and providing materials in a variety of different formats to suit different learners’ needs, to name but a few. We work closely with parents and professionals to ensure that a pupils' needs are met.
Steps taken to ensure all children with special educational needs and/or disabilities have access to a full and enriched educational experience include:
- raising awareness and staff training
- ensuring all policies reflect the school's commitment to equal opportunities for children with disabilities
- monitoring their impact alongside consultation with all stakeholders

Lancashire break time offers ofsted approved quality clubs and activities for children with SEN. it is for children who have needs but are not in receipt of direct payments from social services. This usually means most children with an EHCP in mainstream school.
If parents register that may be able to have up to 70+ hours a year of funded clubs and activities which will cater specially for their child. Parents can usually drop off which gives them a real break as they can be reassured the staff at the club/activity are best placed to deal with a range of SEN.
